Delhi Daredevils
From coach Greg Shipperd’s contrived ramble on the official Daredevils’ website to Aaron Finch’s flash marketing on Twitter, it’s clear that the Delhi franchise are out to shed their tag as perennial underachievers.
Losing semi-finalists two years on the trot before mid-table ignominy ended their 2010 effort, Virender Sehwag’s men head into the fourth edition of the Twenty20 showpiece free of the passengers that dogged their previous campaigns – Paul Collingwood and Owais Shah are gone.
Rather than flood their ranks with multiple new signings, Delhi have stuck with what they know and merely complemented their solid status quo with one or two new recruits.

» STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
Proven Twenty20 specialists rather than ODI and Test converts line their squad, with Big Bashers, Champions Leaguers and Pro20ists from across the globe ready to fuel the fire that Sehwag and David Warner spark at the top of the knock. With Sehwag rightly back at the helm following Gautam Gambhir’s departure, Delhi’s leadership seems settled after a couple of topsy-turvy seasons. Irfan Pathan, James Hopes and Andrew McDonald, meanwhile, are all clever seamers able to appropriately take the pace off the ball in sub-continental conditions. Bowling coach Eric Simons joins Sehwag as World Cup winner brimming with confidence and keen on more of the triumphant same.
Weaknesses
With their home games to be staged at the notoriously low and slow Feroz Shah Kotla, the brains trust should’ve vouched for the signing of a couple of kingpin spinners. This, however, is not the case, with a string of unknown slow bowlers instead left to duke it out for four overs apiece. Delhi have spent a considerable amount of cash on overseas recruits that don’t quite make the grade for their country, and gambling on the likes of Roelof van der Merwe, Robbie Frylinck, Travis Birt, etc might backfire.
